Fahmaan Khan, currently seen as the male lead in Pyar Ke Saat Vachan Dharam Patnii, made his directorial debut with the single Beirada a few months ago. One advantage he had as a first-time directorwas his understanding of the pivotal role played by the captain of the ship. He shares, “I have always considered myself a director’s actor. When a scene is presented to me, I don’t require extensive explanations to comprehend the director’s vision and requirements.
I may perceive a scene in my own way, but I am always willing to adapt
and align with the director’s vision if they have something different in
mind. I am flexible and open to moulding myself according to their
expectations. I don’t ask too many questions because I respect and
understand that the director has a clear vision, and I am more than
willing to give my best to bring that vision to life. For me, the
director is truly the captain of the ship.”
He adds, “I have
always had an acumen and eye of a director and nurtured a deep desire to
direct from the time I started working in the industry. When I got an
opportunity, I decided to cash in on what I have learnt on the way. I
was pleasantly surprised with what I achieved during the shoot. I shot
only what was needed for the project. When I put those shots together, I
realised those were exactly the number of scenes required for the song.
I come to know when an extra shot is captured and won’t make it to the
edit.”
The actor, who has been part of shows like Kya Qusoor Hai
Amala Ka? Ishq Mein Marjawan, Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, Apna Time Bhi Aayega,
and Imlie, has a new-found respect for directors who handle a large unit
on the set of a TV show. He adds, “I sympathise with directors even
more now. In fact, I have always had high regard for them. I have never
caused them any worry or trouble. I always try to reach the set on time
and am completely involved in the shooting process.”
